Board of Directors

Castle Resorts & Hotels' Board of Directors consists of well-respected leaders in the communities in which they live, work, and serve. The Board has a strong cross section of Hawaii-based influence and broad diversity. Several members of our executive management team also participate on the Board of Directors.

Rick Wall, Chairman of the Board
A resident of Hawaii for nearly 40 years, Wall is the founder of Castle Resorts & Hotels.  He has a 12-year tenure and continues to serve on the Board of Directors of the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau (HVCB), as well as its Executive Committee.

Alan R. Mattson, Board Member
Alan Mattson possesses over 20 years of senior level hospitality and travel industry experience. He joined Castle in September 1999 as senior vice president of sales and marketing and was later promoted to president in July 2005. Alan was formerly vice president of sales and marketing for Dollar Rent a Car, responsible for all sales and marketing efforts for Hawaii, Asia, and the Pacific. Prior to that, he was director of global marketing for Avis Car Rental, operating out of the Avis worldwide headquarters in New York. In addition, Alan has seven years of sales and marketing experience with Hilton Hotels Corporation, performing in a variety of senior level sales and marketing positions in Hawaii and the domestic United States.

Robert WuRobert Wu, Board Member
Robert Wu currently serves as executive vice president for Asian development for Castle Resorts & Hotels. He joined the company in January 2008 and became an integral part of Castle's business development in the Asia region. Mr. Wu services as the chief executive offer for the Wu Group, a Hawaii based firm that specializes in Asia imports, management of several Hawaii businesses and business consultation services for the Asia-Pacific region.

Jerry Ruthruff, Board Member
Jerry Ruthruff currently serves as general counsel for Castle. He joined the company in September 2003 and became an integral part of Castle’s Executive Committee. A graduate from the University of Washington, Jerry earned his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1972. Prior to joining Castle, he was in private practice in Hawaii.

John Brogan, Board Member
A well-respected and recognized leader in the hotel industry, John Brogan’s last position before retirement was president for Starwood Hotels and Resorts - Hawaii.  Previously he chaired boards including Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau, Hawaii Hotel Association, American Heart Association-Hawaii, Blood Bank of Hawaii, Waikiki Improvement Association and Chaminade University.

Roy Tokujo, Board Member
A 45-year veteran of Hawaii’s travel, restaurant, and entertainment industries, Roy Tokujo has developed company allies with Chinese, Japanese, and Korean communities in the islands and strong business ties with travel industry executives throughout Hawaii. Roy founded Cove Enterprises in 1986, later known as Cove Marketing. He was a member of Hawaii Tourism Authority from its inception in 1998. A board member of the KoOlina Resort Association and KoOlina Community Association, and managing partner of KoOlina Activities, LLC and KoOlina Marketing & Licensing, LLC.

Tony Vericella, Board Member
A tourism marketing veteran for nearly 30 years, Tony Vericella was president and chief executive officer of Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau from 1997 to 2003. He remains active in the tourism industry as a board member with Travel Industry Association of America and Pacific Asian Travel Association. Tony has also served on the Hawaii Wellness Tourism Association and worked with the U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S.-Japan Export Expansion Initiative Working Group and International Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus.

Stan Mukai, Board Member
A partner in the Hawaii law firm of McCorriston, Miller, Mukai, MacKinnon, Stan Mukai's area of practice is in commercial and tax law.  Mukai holds a law degree from Harvard Law School.  He is also the Chairman of the Board of Regents of the University of Hawaii and a member of the Board of Governors of the East-West Center.  He presently serves on the Board of Governors of Iolani.

Rick Humphreys, Board Member
With almost 40 years of financial expertise, Rick Humphreys started his career with Bank of California. He was formerly president of both First Federal S & L and Hawaiian Trust Company. He also served as chairman of Bank of America in Hawaii. Rick is currently president of Hawaii Receivables Management, LLC. Additionally, he is a trustee of Menlo College and State of Hawaii Employees Retirement System; a board member of the Bishop Museum, Pantheon Corporation, and Cancer Research Center of Hawaii.

Mike Irish, Board Member
An entrepreneur for over 30 years, Mike Irish started his career with family-owned businesses when he served as general manager for four boutique hotels on Oahu. He began acquiring real estate in the 1980s and purchased Parks Brand Products in 1985. A year later, he purchased Halm’s Kim Chee and later acquired Diamond Head Seafood in 1995 where he still serves as president. Mike continues to purchase new companies in Hawaii’s food service industry.

Motoko Takahashi, Board Member
Ms. Takahashi’s long-time business associations in Hawaii and Japan make her an invaluable member of the Castle team.  She serves as principal Japanese liaison for the company, facilitating strong relationships and employing cultural protocol.
