Molokai Activities & Attractions

Some of the best Molokai activities are the least expensive. Most won’t cost you a dime because they involve simply exploring the island’s diverse natural wonders. One side of the island is a flat, dry wilderness, while the other is a lush, green palm-filled wonderland with a peninsula extending from breathtaking cliffs. Drive along the coastal highway for spectacular vistas of the islands of Maui, Lanai, and Kahoolawe.

Adventure seekers will definitely want to visit one of the most popular Molokai attractions: Molokai Ranch. This 53,000-acre ranch has almost all of the activities you can imagine. Horseback ride, mountain bike, sport fish, kayak, sail, whale-watch, hike, scuba dive, or snorkel. There’s even sport shooting and archery. It’s just one of the places you’ll find real Hawaii cowboys or “paniolos.” This is, after all, farm country. Rows and rows of papaya, coffee, and corn decorate the landscape, along with old farmhouses and fishponds. Wander off the beaten track. You might find yourself someplace remote and secluded. Molokai beaches certainly have that feeling. The odds of finding an empty one are good. Walk along a rugged shoreline to Kaupoa Beach for tide pool exploration and lounge in the sun on silky white sand. Or visit Papohaku, Hawaii’s biggest white-sand beach at three miles long and 100 yards wide. Perfect for picnics, sunsets, sun bathing, and kite-flying. Need a kite? Head to the Big Wind Kite Factory for a kite with some flair.

Or if you prefer to be the one looking at the world from above, don’t forget the unforgettable. Traverse by mule down 2.9 miles of trail with 26 switchbacks to Kalaupapa National Historic Park where you’ll meet your Damien Tours guide to learn about the historic leper colony. Afterward, have lunch overlooking sea cliffs and waterfalls at Judd Park. Not far from this historic area, you’ll find the beautifully unpretentious Ironwood Hills Golf Course set in the cool, lush central highlands. This 1928 plantation course is a throwback to a time when golf was less sophisticated, and the pineapple workers often had to play around the cows.

List of Top Activities & Attractions on Molokai

Father Damien Tour
(808) 537-9463
http://www.tradewindtourshawaii.com

This fully narrated tour gives a look at what life was like for those living in Molokai during this time. The dramatic scenery of Kalawao is as breath taking as the simplicity of Father Damien's Church. It is a story that is emotionally charged but as inspiring as the people involved and the land they lived on.

Coffees of Hawaii
(877) 322-FARM

This is a wonderful tour for the entire family—a two-hour journey led by our knowledgeable staff. You'll meet our team of mules, named Barbara-Jean, Marla, and Mele. They'll take you through our coffee fields and around the 1.4-million-gallon Kualapu‘u Reservoir. On your return to the plantation, our staff will walk you through our sorting facility and processing procedures. Coffee Cupping is included in the tour along with one free 7-ounce bag of our Island Style Blend coffee.
