Saipan Activities & Attractions

There are all kinds of ways to experience Saipan. By land, take a jungle safari, book a scooter for the day, or hike through the island’s dense and beautiful mountain trails. By sea, glide across the aquamarine water in a glass-bottom boat, snorkel, or scuba dive. By air, take in the island from 700 feet on a thrilling parasail adventure. However you decide to explore the wide range of Saipan activities, you’re sure to see some spectacular sights. Some highlights for your list: Laderan Banadero (or “Suicide Cliff”) and Puntan Sabaneta (also known as “Banzai Cliff”), both offering stunning views, along with World War II history. Isletan Maigo Fahang (or Bird Island) offers excellent bird watching, plus a beautiful view from its observation deck that looks a mile out to the Marina Harbor. For a 360-degree ocean view, and a perspective on just how small the island really is, drive to the top of Mount Tapochao. At 473m, it’s Saipan’s highest vantage point.

Saipan beaches are said to be the best in Micronesia. The most famous is Micro Beach, a 1km stretch of white sand with a play park and water sport facilities. This beach is used as a location for many Japanese TV commercials. Take a boat to the “the pearl of Saipan,” Managaha Island, where a pristine white sandy beach surrounds this little island. The waters here have a 50-meter visibility allowing divers to see airplane, submarine, ship, and tank wrecks. Don’t miss the Blue Grotto ocean cave where the sun shines through an underwater wall and lights up the sea. You may even have the opportunity to see sea turtles. Other Saipan beaches you’ll want to visit are Lau Lau Beach for swimming, and palm-lined Obyan Beach, offering a breathtaking view across to Tinian Island. Tinian itself offers an array of water sports, along with some outstanding attractions, including The Korean Peace Memorial, House of Taga (Micronesia’s most famous ruins and blow hole), and the Hagoi U.S. Army Base. Whether you island-hop, or stick to the Saipan beaches, you won’t be at a loss for wonderful spots to snorkel, beach comb, and picnic.
