Beautiful Island...all the culture of Thailand.Koh Samui, meaning the "Island of Coconut Trees" is located in the Gulf of Thailand in South China Sea, part of the Pacific Ocean, and is the third largest island of Thailand. The island is a district in the Surat Thani Changwat or province. Samui is divided into seven Tambon or sub districts (administrative regions): Maenam, Bophut, Maret, Taling Nam, Namuang, Lipa Noi and Angthong. Koh Samui has been a backpackers destination since late 70's. Today, travelers from all over the world visit this island paradise which is surrounded by more than sixty other islands, some small and inhabited, some bigger as Koh Phangan, Koh Tao (divers island), Koh Nang Yuan and Angthong Islands, the National Marine Park. The old capital is Nathon, on the southwest coast of the island, and remains the major port for fishing and inter-island transportation. Nathon is the seat of the regional government, and the true commercial hub of the Samui locals. It has a charming pace, and is almost small enough to walk everywhere. The old Chinese shop houses along the middle street whisper of an exotic history. Only recently has the island begun to develop, it now boasts about 45,000 inhabitants and its own airport. Access to Koh Samui is common, with many daily flights from the domestic and International airports in Bangkok. The Samui International airport was built in 1989 and is considered one of the most beautiful airports in the world. The Baan Taling Ngam Resort and Spa is perched on the southwest coast of the island; from the hustle of Bangkok, the flight to serene and tranquil Koh Samui is a mere 45 minutes.
Koh Samui is a tiny piece of paradise, only 25 kilometers long and 21 kilometers wide, the main road rings the lush mountainous interior. Trek into the forests to see the glorious Namuang Waterfalls, and let the Big Buddha mesmerize you with its awe-inspiring splendor. Escape to another world as you immerse yourself in calm unspoiled beauty.
